In Alberta, XOOM Energy trades as XOOM Energy Canada, ULC, the Canadian arm of XOOM Energy, LLC, a US competitive retail energy supplier founded in 2011 and headquartered in Huntersville, North Carolina. The company is a registered Alberta retailer (UCA retailer ID 174) authorised to sell electricity and natural gas to residential and small-business customers across the province.
The parent was acquired by NYSE-listed NRG Energy, Inc. in March 2018 for approximately USD 210 million, placing XOOM alongside Reliant, Direct Energy, Green Mountain and Stream in NRG's retail portfolio. XOOM Energy, LLC operates in more than 90 energy-choice markets across North America.
Beyond direct enrolment at xoomenergy.ca, XOOM Alberta contracts are also sold by ACN Inc. independent business owners through a dedicated portal, replicating the parent's North American network-marketing channel. Customers continue to be physically served and billed through their existing wires utility (ATCO, ENMAX, EPCOR, FortisAlberta or the City of Lethbridge); XOOM only supplies the energy portion of the bill.

XOOM is registered to serve all of Alberta as a competitive retail energy supplier. Its electricity service spans the ATCO Electric, ENMAX, EPCOR, FortisAlberta and City of Lethbridge territories, plus nine Rural Electrification Associations; natural-gas service covers the ATCO Gas and AltaGas footprints.
Whichever wires utility delivers your power, you continue to be billed by it for delivery; XOOM only replaces the energy-charge line. The provincial Regulated Rate Option (RRO) remains the default for anyone who has not signed a competitive contract.
XOOM in Ontario is a separate entity
XOOM also operates in Ontario, but through a distinct legal entity, XOOM Energy ONT, ULC, licensed by the Ontario Energy Board (ER-2023-0362 / GM-2023-0361) rather than registered with Alberta's UCA. The plans, rates and rules there follow Ontario's hybrid market, not Alberta's.
