How Summitt's 5-year locks work in Ontario's marketer regime
Summitt Energy offers what is structurally the most common product in Ontario's marketer segment: a fixed ¢/kWh or ¢/m³ rate for up to five years, on top of which the utility's delivery and regulatory charges continue to flow. The product is not designed to be cheaper than the Regulated Price Plan in every month, it's designed to flatten volatility across a long horizon.
Why the OEB-mandated reaffirmation call matters
Under Ontario's Energy Consumer Protection Act, 2010, every Summitt contract must be reaffirmed by the customer in a second call 10 to 60 days after signing. If you don't reaffirm, or actively cancel during that window, the contract does not take effect, even if you signed at the door or on the phone. This is your safety net; use it if anything in the post-signing materials surprises you.

Bottom line
Summitt makes sense for Ontario homes that strongly value rate certainty across the full 5-year term, and accept that the trade-off is potentially paying more than the RPP in calm years. Always insist on the energy charge, monthly admin fee, exit fee and renewal clause in writing before the OEB-mandated reaffirmation call, and remember Ontario's 10-day cooling-off period applies on top of the reaffirmation window.
