XOOM Energy entered the Ontario market in March 2017 through its local operating entity XOOM Energy ONT, ULC, with a head office at 777 Bay Street in Toronto. The company is a licensed electricity retailer (OEB licence ER-2023-0362) and gas marketer (GM-2023-0361) authorised to sell fixed-price electricity and natural-gas contracts to residential and small-business customers across the province.
XOOM Energy ONT, ULC is part of XOOM Energy, LLC, a multi-state US energy retailer that operates in more than 90 North American energy-choice markets. The parent was acquired by NYSE-listed NRG Energy, Inc. in March 2018 for approximately USD 210 million, placing XOOM alongside Reliant, Direct Energy, Green Mountain and Stream in NRG's retail portfolio.
In Ontario, XOOM's primary go-to-market channel is network marketing through ACN Inc. independent business owners, who direct prospects to acn.xoomenergy.ca to enrol online and complete the OEB-mandated Third Party Verification (TPV) call within 10 days. Customers continue to be billed and physically served by their existing utility (Hydro One, Alectra Utilities, London Hydro, Elexicon Energy, etc.) and by Enbridge Gas for natural gas.

XOOM Ontario electricity service covers customers in Hydro One Networks, Alectra Utilities, London Hydro, Elexicon Energy and other Ontario LDC territories (8 electric markets at the time the 2017 expansion was announced). Natural gas service spans the Enbridge Gas distribution footprint covering most of Ontario.
Customers continue to be billed by their existing utility, XOOM only handles the supply portion of the bill.
XOOM in Alberta is a separate entity
XOOM also operates in Alberta, but through a distinct legal entity, XOOM Energy Canada, ULC, registered with the Utilities Consumer Advocate (UCA #174) rather than licensed by the OEB. The plans, rates and rules there follow Alberta's competitive market and its Regulated Rate Option, not Ontario's hybrid market.
