The electricity market has not been deregulated in Saskatchewan, and most of the electricity system in the province is owned and operated by the publicly-owned, vertically integrated utility SaskPower. The natural gas market, however, has been deregulated. This means that Saskatchewan residents have a choice of purchasing their natural gas supply from SaskEnergy, or from an independent Gas Retailer.
