How to Pay Your Direct Energy Bill
At Your Bank
There are several ways to pay your Direct Energy bill at your bank:
- At Your Bank Branch: You will need to bring in your Direct Energy bill the first time that you go in to pay, as you will need to set up Direct Energy as a payee. You shouldn't need to present your bill every time you go to your bank to pay once this is done.
- Online: Direct Energy will have to be registered as a payee in your personal online banking account in order for you to pay online. To do this you will need your 12-digit account number. Make sure to select 'Direct Energy (Alberta)' or 'Direct Energy Essential Services' as the payee.
- Telephone Banking: Some banks offer am automated telephone payment service. As is the case with online or paying at your branch, you will need to set up Direct Energy as a payee the first time that you pay your bill using this service. To do this you will need your 12-digit account number, which you may need to enter (partially or in full) each subsequent time that you make a payment over the phone. You will select either 'Direct Energy (Alberta)' or 'Direct Energy Essential Services' as the payee.
- ATM: If you are able to to pay your bill at an ATM you must have already registered Direct Energy as a payee (which you can do online, at your branch, or through telephone banking). You should have your 12-digit account number with you when you pay at an ATM.
Recurring Payment Plan
Through the recurring payment option, you continue to receive a monthly bill but the amount is automatically debited from your bank account on the night of the due date. This means that you don't pay late fees, and saves you the time of paying your bill. However, you must be certain that you will always have enough money in your account to pay your bill (or have bank-approved overdraft protection), or you may be charged insufficient funds charges.
